12 of 12 - The Beginning of Division

In the early morning of April 12, 1861 the first Confederate shells reigned down upon the Union held Fort Sumter at the mouth of Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. This is considered the beginning of America's Civil War, 150 years ago today.

This 12 of 12 photo is of one of the Salem's two Civil War memorial statues taken early this  morning. This sentry stands guard over the graves of Civil War veterans inside the Greenlawn Cemetery. The stone has a very bluish hue which stands out among the evergreen trees. On the rear of the monument is inscribed, "For all he was and all he dared, remember him to-day."
