Sepia Saturday - From Barracks to Mansion

These old post cards showing the "official barracks of the RCMP" in New Brunswick, Canada were found among my grandmothers things. My grandfather was native to Fredrickton. They must have picked up some of these cards when they were visiting relatives.

I did a search on Google Earth to see if the old building still exists. Sure enough it comes back as the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of the province, as well as the New Brunswick residence of the Canadian monarchy. There must have been some renovations involved to transform from barracks to mansion. In one of the old post cards there is a cannon on the grounds.

Noticable in the google street view is the classic gravel driveway that leads to the mansion. No doubt a testament to the frugality of our hardy Canadian cousins.
