Beach Beasts

These are two of several bronze beach lions that once were used to shower beach goers with fresh water to wash the salt and sand of their bodies. They are no longer in use as water is a precious resource now. They were in place in the early 1800's here at Revere Beach. The promenade here was part of the old Metropolitan District Commission that once administered the Boston area water supply. Revere Beach is now part of the Massachusetts State Park system.
