Warships From the Air

Warships from the air shows many different type of ships in the US Navy circa 1934. They are at rest in the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, Massachusetts. Look closely you can see one in dry dock for repairs.

But the most famous of all warships is the one at the bottom. She is the USS Constitution or "Old Ironsides." At the moment she is in that dry dock above having some of her hull repaired.

Yearly she is taken out of her berth and "sailed" using the help of a tugboat. On the Fourth of July she "sails" to Fort Independence in Boston where she is saluted with cannons. She returns that salute to the fort. She also is taken one a year for a "turnabout" cruise to keep her weathered evenly on both sides.

She remains the oldest commissioned warship in the world.
