Lions seem to proliferate around Copley Square in Boston, Massachusetts. There are two giant lions inside the Boston Public Library which is pictured in the left photo.
These two snow covered lions once graced the entrance of The Kensington Hotel on Boylston Street directly across from Boston Public Library. It looks as though the time frame for when this photo was shot, judging from the clothing and cars in the background, was the early 1970's

The Hotel Kensington was leveled in the 1980's to make way for a more futuristic building. It's so futuristic that it's known as the Darth Vader building due to it's distinctive shape. I guess these snowy lions didn't really belong with that futuristic look but you can still find these lions guarding another hotel. They now reside in front of the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel just around the corner.
